Mini Cryptic Experiment (with clue types)

· By Tuffy · Published 2022-08-03T13:42:49.015Z

Constructor's Note
This one's a bit different from my other cryptics because I wanted to try my hand at making my own clue types or at least alternate versions of them. I will provide to the side of the clues which custom clueing types are present, but any common clues such as anagram indicators will still be up for the solver to figure out. Also note that all of these entries are one 5 letter word. If any of these clues seem interesting to use, I will make note of it and will possibly make them features of my future cryptics. Happy solving!

I had to ask for 2D but after that it all fell into place quite nicely! I assume it's "creed" + "deep"? This was a fun one.
My only other feedback is that 5A could have been either panes or napes if you hadn't specified "indirect", which seems a little unfair to the solver.

Yeah, you're correct for the portmanteau in clue 2D!
5A I'm considering reworking a bit, or at least the structure of it. I think that the goal is to 1. make it more clear that the anagram involved is indirect, and 2. that the literal definition is more fair to piece together.
I will most likely reorder the layout of that clue and see how that goes. Thanks for the feedback!

I like the partial homophone & indirect anagram clue types! (Cryptics are not my strong suit and I revealed most of the grid, so I can't offer any suggestions on difficulty)
