Jake’s Midi Cryptic #3

· By Jake A · Published 2024-08-03T03:14:58.692Z

Constructor's Note
The third midi in this series. I construct primarily on the phone and just haven’t got the patience to type out explainers. I’m happy to respond to any questions, which I always appreciate. I sincerely hope you enjoy!

Neat grid design! Solid all around, but a few thoughts:
    • 8A: Great surface, but I don't love [opening] as an indicator for 5/7 letters.
    • 10A: A bit too shared root-y in the use of [god] for me, but the wordplay's solid.
    • 2D: Gettable, but I still prefer to avoid indirect anagrams.
    • 3D: [Half an outrageous cost] ARM & LEG and [relative without regard] [-re]LATIVE are both super fun and creative!
    • 4D: Very nice clue.
    • 12D: I get the use of [daffy] for the duck (even lowercased), but it reads a bit off.

I liked reading your comments, I'm new to cryptics.

Good puzzle, thanks. I'm still learning cryptics so I revealed most of the squares. I did like and get 1A, 2D, 6D.

Thanks, Jessica! I’m glad you enjoyed it and are getting into cryptics. I have found them to be a lot of fun!
