9A: a double definition, one of which might not be universally known: "pulse" is the botanical name for legumes (when in dried seed form), such as peas, beans, lentils, etc. And of course, in the body, a pulse is a sign of life.
10A: a homophone of GRAY'S (as in the famous anatomist, of Gray's Anatomy fame)... though I now realize the indicator isn't the exact right form! Apologies for that.
