To solve these clues, it helps to have basic knowledge of French, German and Spanish. For example, "French wine found in the excavation is Tom Daley's job (6)" = VIN (the French word for WINE) inside DIG (excavation) = DIVING = Tom Daley's line of work

I understand how I got most of these, and see all the definitions, but still a bit fuzzy on the wordplay in 1A (ICI = here), 1D (with Yankee = the ending Y), and 2D (I see SIRI backwards and the H… but why?).
1A Yes, ICI = here in France ER = Elizabeth Regina = Latin for Queen Elizabeth (Queen Elizabeth II often used to sign documents Elizabeth or ER and King Charles is often Charles R or CR, and these are common clues in crosswords, as is King George [GR] etc.) ICIER = much colder, obvs
1D ICH = I in Germany T = time (again, a common crossword abbreviation, taken from Maths formulae) ICH is KEEPING (i.e. holding) T and, yes, Yankee = Y in the NATO phonetic alphabet
2D It's not reliant on SIRI backwards - "Nationality OF Siri's husband" clues that the answer is found INSIDE "sIRI'S Husband"
