      Here was my meta solve journey (well, actually what it should have been since I kind of made a WAG, skipped ahead, got lucky, and then filled in):
      • Hey, the long across entries look unusual
      • I think I kind of see some dessert ingredients like SUGAR
      • But they each have an extra letter… like P in SUPGAR
      • And from the top we have SUGAR with P, EGG with O, FLOUR with U, SALT with N, BUTTER with D
      • Hey, that spells POUND
      • Gee, I hope they’re not putting a pound of salt into the batter too
