  I have a tendency to overthink hidden word clues by interpreting the indicator differently. I had the M in 26D and thought “compromise” = definition, “Ryan” = MEG, with a synonym for “sorrow” inside. Of course, that got me nowhere.

    I think it's to "empty out" ExtrA SecuritY to get EASY, and there's a movie called EASY A, so "EASY" is "A's" predecessor

      That's what I was going for! It was maybe a bit too specific of a pop culture ask for a cryptic depending on your tolerance for that kind of thing
