Yeah so I cleary made up the spelling for 5a. I have fired my editor, and as a descriptivist, I believe as long as we all agree it's a word, it is! Sorry!

Thanks for the puzzle, I enjoyed it! Struggled with 5A, not quite sure where the fodder lies.

I intended this: I believe d is an accepted abbreviation for both democrat and departs (unless it's only "depart"), so it's an anagram of yes, d, and d.
Thanks for posting your puzzle; I enjoyed solving it.
Further to 5A; I don't think abbreviations are acceptable in the fodder of an anagram. As you have shown in 2D the anagram of CODE is separate from the abbreviation for "wife".
Ignoring the plural/singular issue, I don't think "current" is a good synonym for "eddy" - it's not in Chambers.
Please don't take my comments as criticism.

Collins (and others) lists "counter-current" in the definition, but maybe that's not close enough. I'm absolutely ready to admit I messed up that clue.
I'm sure I've solved clues where abbreviations have been used as anagram fodder. I'm not seeing how 5a and 2d would be different.
