POINT is another word much overused by compilers. It can, of course, indicate you need to use N, S. E or W, but it's also much punned on, as it can mean: [1] a sharp tip or sharp object [2] a place or spot in space or time [3] a mark added to one's total score [4] an argument or one detail thereof [5] the main purpose of something [6] a verb meaning TO INDICATE. POINTER, meanwhile, can be [1] a breed of dog [2] a stick used to point with [3] a needle or indicator on a meter, set of scales etc, [4] somebody who points If you enjoy my crosswords, you'll LOVE the Cryptic Mystic's fantastic YouTube channel, which has been kind enough to feature a couple of my crosswords and is THE best resource for cryptic beginners: https://www.youtube.com/@The_Cryptic_Mystic

I was aware that the Crafty Cockney was a slightly niche reference for the more mature Briton, but I couldn't resist the clue. Sorry! Thank you so much for all your really lovely comments x

I am a beginner and had to look up a few thing but overall this was really well made and satisfying to complete! One of my first few cryptics but I never felt stuck or frustrated, thank you!
