Meta explanation: There are six clues that only make sense if one of the words is flipped. The six words are: straw (warts) at 3D, cam (mac) at 14A, repaid (diaper) at 21D, iron (nori) at 24A, pool (loop) at 28D, and trap (part) at 39A. Their initials spell out SCRIPT, as in "flip the script". The starting squares of the answers to those six clues are ordered from left to right and from top to bottom.

A nice drawer getting to the end of this. Thanks !
Very cool. I got STRIP and knew there had to be something else- I kept staring at CAM, because that clue didn't make any sense, but MAC also doesn't make sense there to me. LOL. But, I had "flip the script" in my head before even getting STRIP, so I had a feeling that was where this was going. Now I know that MAC is a nickname for a raincoat!
