Explanation: Each clue starts with a 5-letter word and ends with a 6-letter word. To get from one to the other, you change a letter and add a letter. The middle step is the 5-letter nonsense "word" after the letter change and before the letter addition. For instance, ALAMO -> CLAMO -> CLAMOR. I made sure that there is always one unique middle step.
(I mostly just wanted to make a crossword that looked as incomprehensible as possible once solved. I thought the gimmick was I came up with was pretty neat! Apologies for the potentially obscure reference in 4D; the audience for my crosswords was, up until a few days ago, one other person.)
