Meta Prompt
The meta answer is two Beatles songs. Discuss the puzzle and see nudges at https://www.xword-muggles.com/viewtopic.php?t=2487
If your entry shows up incorrectly, try it again without punctuation, or switch the order of the songs.
Nudges: Look for common letter lengths in the themers, along with the first letters of the theme words.
It’s not Lovely Rita. Apply the numbers in a more collective manner.
The corners may “Help”.
This puzzle was released on October 23, a day of serendipitous significance to me.

Great puzzle! And Happy Birthday! I had quite a few wrong answers before I figured out the hint for the second song ;)

Crosshare as picky, but I got it to work on the second try. Happy Birthday! And thank you for giving us all a fun present.

Very clever. I saw the 6 and 4 letter theme answers and title and my wife saw the four corners, so it was a good team effort.

Mechanism(s): || Each themer and title make up a 6 letter and 4 letter word. These words spell in order, my name.
In the corners THEY SAY ITS YOUR

Happy Birthday! Nice one! Saw the corners, then your name, but it took me several more hours to clue into the word lengths.

Happy Birthday, Peter! I was thinking "ABIDE" might be referencing "Let It Be" but it was not...to be. Also considered The Ballad of John and Yoko, since it references Peter (Brown), but figured that was too deep a cut

I got Birthday right away and I was pretty sure it was When I'm Sixty-four, but it took me a bit to justify the second song. Happy Birthday, Peter! And thanks for the puzzle.

Happy birthday! I still don't know how I'm supposed to get to the second song. I see THEY SAY ITS YOUR for the first one, and I see PETER ABIDE in the initials of the long entries. The highest entry number is 63. I see YEARS GO but then it falls apart. DOUBLE EDGE might be telling me to look at the down edges, where I see a homophonic YEN OAR ENDEAR, which is what, DESIRE OR LOVE? And I get that the birthday boy is likely a cheery dude, but how does that help? Maybe I'll scroll down and read the comments. Did I say happy birthday?
                          • Abide costruttore · 2023-10-23T22:40:36.031Z
I can't tell which song you are asking for info on. Did you notice that each themer (and the title) are 6, 4? Ergo "I am 64".

Very clever. Happy Birthday, Peter. Personally, I stopped counting a while back...
                            • DrTom 9s · 2023-10-23T22:41:34.999Z
Well I had this early on, but apparently the program did not like 64. I did not get it the way I should, I got "They Say It's Your..." and Peter Abide (also Cheery=Happy ? Dude=Peter Abide) and I guessed from hearing him and knowing some of his history that Peter was in his sixties. But when I entered Birthday When I'm 64 it said incorrect). It was only when Peter nudged me to look at the theme entries broken in two that I got the 64 and realized I must have to spell it out. Thank goodness you don't live on a hill!! Nice MMM Peter.

Not sure why Crosshare wanted to make this a Week 5. I thought I had the bases covered as it says spaces and punctuation are ignored. I had these as Answers
The solutions are: When I'm 64 Birthday, When I'm SixtyFour Birthday, Birthday When Im 64, Birthday When Im Sixtyfour
                                • damefox 🤓4:06 · 2023-10-24T00:53:33.287Z
Huh, it says it ignores punctuation but maybe it doesn't ignore apostrophes? This is a question for Mike. Anyway, that would explain Berto's comment below, because you only include the apostrophe when When I'm 64 appears first. But I entered "birthday / when I'm sixty-four" and it accepted that, so there goes that theory. Did it get confused because a slash appeared first? Again a question for Mike. Possibly we've run into some weird edge case of the meta answer submission feature...

Some of my solutions had punctuation in them. I removed the ' and - on my end. I think that should resolve the situation.
                                  • DrTom 9s · 2023-10-24T02:41:12.773Z
Well I suppose it is the apostrophe because I'm sure I entered "When I'm 64 Birthday". Not to worry I got there in the end and saw a lot more elegance. I usually do terrible on those I have to infer, I consider them infernal. Always better to have a confirmer!
                                • Berto 🤓3:42 · 2023-10-23T23:03:49.413Z
Crosshare accepted “Im” but not “I’m” ?!?! But no matter - taking out pesky punctuation fits with my being nudged to remove the comma from (6, 4) lol - thank you Peter! Happy 🎂 🎂 🎂 🎂 🎂 🎂 🎈 🎈 🎈 🎈 Birthday!
                                  • merlinnimue 🤓12:20 · 2023-10-24T05:09:15.696Z
definitely not in my wheelhouse (beatles remind me of a bad college roommate so ive never cared to listen), i was lucky to take a step back and spot the lyrics in the corners, and thinking about birthdays led me to try when im 64, but i did not recognize the (6,4) going on in the themers and title, so i am a dumb
anyway, happy birthday... its not fair that youre the one giving us presents too

I kept looking at the 6 4 enumeration and was sure one of the answers must be LOVELY RITA, the only Beatles song with that enumeration. Then my husband spotted the four corner words.

Then saw the name and figured out the motivation for the puzzle. But didn't realize that I should be able to get the second one from that until it was pointed out. 😂 I guess I should have looked at the corners too. :) Excellent stuff as always. Thanks!

I come to you from the frontlines of Beatlemania having been 13 in 1964, seeing them live that year. Here we are all of these years later and I love them even more. My picture is even in Paul McCartney's The Lyrics!! No kidding. And now, thanks to you Pete, Tantum Ergo is what's stuck in my head!! LOL. Thank you and Happy Birthday, Peter! What a Bright Idea for a special Double-Edged puzzle! I find it so interesting how some people see one song first and strive for the other, while others see the other first and struggle for the one others had little trouble with. These puzzles are always so "Different strokes for..." which makes them so wonderful!

Originally the second song (Birthday) was an Easter egg. But when some of the test solvers latched on to that as the answer, having a two-song answer made sense. I didn't count on the "dual-brain" scenario you correctly noted.

Happy Birthday! I saw PETER ABIDE in the themers almost immediately, but it took me awhile to figure out it was your birthday and the connection to the Beatle songs! Fun puzzle!

A belated Happy Birthday Peter!! And wow. You are a whole 33 days older than me, you ol' geezer :D
I saw your name in the theme entry initials but wasn't aware of the other significant details.

Recall in the intro I said “some Googling may be required “ 😊

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!. Ideally,, someone else would have constructed this one for Peter, but who knew?
I've often wondered about that deal where I sell my soul to the devil for eternal youth. Alas, I never got the offer. OTOH, some people, apparently, never even need to consider it.

Happy birthday + 2 (days) as well .
Curiously I found both songs differently. First, based on nudges 2 & 3, I counted the total number of letters in the 5 themers plus the four corners, which happens to add up to 64. Coupled with the last nudge, I intuited that you were celebrating your 64th birthday, which gave me both song titles. Missed what the four corners spelled out... Well done.

Reading this thread, I realize that the 6-4 read as 64 (age) had been completely lost on me. I noticed 6 and 4 but when you nudged to think of it “collectively” I started looking for 10-letter Beatles songs! 🤦‍♀️. Also, I was expecting the answer to be 2 words like the themers (maybe consisting of 10 letters?) — so… “Abide” could be “Wait” (a Beatles song)… what could be the one for Peter? Is there a song called Piper? Apostle? Saint? (And if the word is 6 letters that would be spectacular.) Finally, since all these words acrostic to your name, I tried looking for Beatles song titles that would acrostic to CHEERY DUDE… but of course not possible. So… the nudges pointed to some of what I had already seen, but must say that I never saw the corners until that nudge! This really was well constructed! Just turned out for me to have too many other ways keep trying to use the data I saw, to go looking for other things (like those 4 corners or the birthday comment on the muggles site… and I may have been accessing this on the day after anyway.)

Finally looking back at this puzzle so I can take it off my clipboard. I submitted many different times, different iterations, but I kept getting that silly crying emoji. I saw on the Muggles forum that I was on the solved list, but I couldn't figure out what was wrong with my submission on Crosshare. I realize now it was probably because I kept putting the word "and" between the two song titles, which was not part of the correct answers accepted. Or maybe I included/omitted apostrophes. Now I know to exclude any extraneous words/punctuation in Crosshare submissions. Thanks for a great puzzle, Peter, and happy much belated birthday!
