The meta answer is a sentence consisting of seven Across entries, read top to bottom, which explains the puzzle's theme.
To celebrate the end of the school year, here's a 21x21 Sunday stumper that's not for the faint of heart! I decided to create two versions: Regular and Hard. This is the Hard (meta) version, in which the meta answer is a seven-word sentence consisting of Across answers that explains the puzzle's theme. For the Regular (non-meta) version, in which the seven words are highlighted for you, visit https://knottygrids.blogspot.com/2024/05/lessons-in-chemistry.html. Happy solving!
Impressed with the construction. As soon as I started reading I saw what the clues were doing because they were so short and odd. I missed the ALL on my first submission and added ONCE (which of course was incorrect but I needed a seventh). Very inventive with your cluing, it made it that much more fun!!
WOW!!! OK I only took chemistry 101, so I had to look them up on a periodic table but you got ALL of them in the RIGHT ORDER! That is beyond amazing! Thanks!

This was so cool! I wish I had seen it back in the day, but it was still fun to realize what was going on.
I can't imagine how much work it took.
