Well, one big difference is Simba's mother isn't in the picture (and doesn't marry Scar). Other difference is there's a happy ending.

[Actually my original clue mentioned the lack of the mother, but I removed it as I figured my objective was to draw attention to the similarities and not draw attention to the differences]

But yeah, it's essentially a retelling of Hamlet.

Okay. The production team responsible of "The Lion King" is Disney. And the production team responsible for "Hamlet" is SHAKESPEARE for the S.

Replace the entries of the derived material to the equivalent of the original. If it asks for the name of character, we give the name of a character (Everett/Odysseus, Larry Cook/Lear). If it asks for an author we give the author (Kingsolver/Dickens). If it asks for a title well we give the title (Clueless/Emma, The Mere Wife/Beowolf, Ulysses/The Sixteenth of June). Okay maybe "producer"= Disney and "producer"=Shakespeare isn't too tight a fit but I figured as no-one ever knows who writes movies.

The stream of consciousness novel in a single day about Leopold Bloom, Molly Bloom, and Stephen Dedalus is Ullyses, the story of the monster who seeks revenge on Herothelm after the death of her son Grendl is Beowolf, the father in "King Lear" who falls apart apart after disowning his youngest daughter when he tries to divide his kingdom is Lear. The novel about a head-strong and clueless match-maker is Emma.

And finally the creator of "Hamlet" the play of a prince and his murderous uncle is .... Shakespeare.

It didn't occur to me that people would think it was the title of the original works and is was coincidence that "David Copperfield" and Dickens both start with D.
