This is my first ever cryptic crossword. I've had a case of constructor's block for a while now, so I thought to try my hand at a cryptic crossword. Hopefully I can make this a new series of sorts to start up. Feedback is appreciated as always.
Congrats on the debut cryptic (there's a typo in 1A). I liked 1D and 3D a lot—those are solid surfaces. (I know some people would quibble about "roaring opening" as opposed to "opening of roaring" or "roaring's opening" but I personally think this is clear enough.) I can't talk about 2D as I don't have the parse on it.
As for the rest, in 1A I think you could make a better surface without "methods" and I think another definition for SMART might've worked better, like [Stylish streetcars speeding west] or even (if you were stretching the indicator) [Stylish streetcars travel into the sunset]. 4A has a great definition, but I feel like the cryptic part is trying too hard to match it. By all means, stay away from liquor references to continue the misdirect, but something like [Cutting onions in half to go with sides of cabbage is not neat] might also work. As for 5A, "Is full of" feels awkward; maybe there's another way to get there? Like [Bursts out of parties, allegedly]?
