MAIN in crossword clues is usually in the sense of SPANISH MAIN (i.e. SEA), not in the sense of MAIN STREET (i.e. PRINCIPAL), although it can occasionally also be MAIN in the sense of VEGETARIAN MAINS (i.e. what you eat between your starter and your dessert) and, of course, "The MAIN feature of Paris (4)" would be HAND. But it usually means SEA, so when I say "It's MAINLY A Crossword!", I mean it's a crossword with a sea theme..

It's a nod to the fact that it's "a confused mixture" in two senses - it's both the definition of the word and the clue that it's an anagram. Possibly not my best worded clue ever, though. Thank you.
