Constructor's Note
A themeless cryptic crossword.
I think this is a tough one.
Reference dictionary/thesaurus is mostly Chambers: https://chambers.co.uk/search/ (If it's not in Chambers but you're pretty sure you're right, try Merriam-Webster or a sensible Google search. Chambers may be the cryptic crossword standard, but it ain't perfect, and it doesn't seem to be up-to-date with any words coined in the last 50 years or so.)
Definition in 9A is borrowed from some NYT crossword I found in Crosshare's clue suggestions. It was too good to pass up.
