  The misdirect in 5A got me good, putting in TOP before actually working out the answer! 1A is a new word to me. I think 3D works really well. Thanks!

    Ditto on 5A, except I went to TEE. I love the surfaces of 1A and 4A; as for 3D, clever, especially once I stopped trying to go with EARS instead of just EAR.

  Once again I tear my hair out at the poor cross-referencing of Chambers Thesaurus. OUTRE is not listed under "eccentric", yet "eccentric" is listed under "outré"
