A Game Of Numbers

Meta Prompt
The solution to this meta is 8 letters. When solving, I would advise starting from square one, and reading like a book.
Through my extreme boredom, I came up with a silly idea for a meta puzzle! This one is very much something I'd create (being a huge math nerd and all), and is my first attempt at a meta, but I think considering I'm new to most of this stuff, it should be pretty simple to find the solution even as a new solver.

Couldn't solve it, even after revealing the answer...

To explain the solution for this:
The most important thing to consider on this board is the Fibonacci sequence. The idea is to start from the top-leftmost square, and follow through the digits in the sequence until you can't anymore. In this case, the sequence runs up to 21 before you reach the end of the board. So, the sequence will go 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21.
Counting the P in the topleft as the first 1 in the sequence, you have to move to the left however much the next digit says. Since the next digit is also 1, you move one to the left to get E. 2 is the next in sequence, so moving 2 to the left from E goes to R. When you reach the edge of a row, just keep counting and move to the next row down, starting again from the left. (this is why I included the hints to start from square one - both the first actual square on the board and the first 1 in the fibonacci sequence - and to read like a book, left to right and top to bottom).
Hopefully this makes a bit more sense for how to get there. As I said, I'm new to metas in general, and this was just a silly idea I had for one. I' sure there was a way I could clarify this better, but my main way of conveying things is through long-winded paragraphs of explanation. If there's any advice you could give on how this could be better, please do let me know!

Oh, thanks. I did check partial sums, but only looked at the numbered squares

Very interesting. Knew we were doing something with the Fibonacci sequence, but it took me a bit to make any sense of it. Obviously the first attempt was just grabbing the letters in the boxes matching 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34- which gives you PETFDDAP lol. For a second I thought we might be doing something with pet food!
