    took this dumdum too long... but i didn't succumb to the check button, so moral victory?
    i got stuck on 15a... but since i don't have any ideas, that's to be expected... and i still can't parse 11d (i "got" it by running letters)

      I think 11d might be a bit unfair - I'll see if I can make it a bit clearer. Thanks for the comments!

        I don't know if you already changed 11D, but I think it works as COMPOS[-e]+T. I would get rid of the repetition in 1D's surface with the answer to 16D.
        Really liked 9A, 14A, 18A, 2D, and 3D.

          Oh thanks - I haven't changed it yet. Just thought 'to head' isn't the best grammar and the charade is a 3-step solve so I'm trying to be nice :) Great idea on referencing 16D in 1D
