My memory (confirmed with Google Translate) is that both "avocado" and "lawyer" are "avocat" — but I don't know French, so corrections welcome! Certainly plenty of other ways to clue 5D.

There must be some kind of message in there, that the essential natures of these two seemingly disparate concepts are in fact in harmony. They both both got a reputation for unctuousness? No, that doesn’t quite work for most lawyers.
