I seem to have gotten here quickly. Must be the pitch clock. Also that this one was not as tricky as last week's, but still clever.

Whew. That was very interesting, but I felt pretty certain when the idea for the final answer came to mind. I have a feeling this is going to play out as a challenging and not a medium.

Hard one, but liked it! Was looking for CREW CUTs and DAY LITE and DEW OVERs

Nice one, Will! Took me a minute until I started "listening" to the Cs and Ds. Thanks!

Very nice. It struck me as, oh, say, Mike Shenk-ish. Like a medium-hard WSJCC. Anyone else think so? Thanks, Will!

Good Sunday answer. Unlike last week's agony, I got the correct inspiration very quickly. You never know from one week to the next...

It didn't take very long to figure out based on the title. I liked it. Thanks.

Went in so many different directions based on the main observation, but the moment things fell into place was so satisfying!

I had this one mostly figured out hours ago, but I had to sound it out like I was on Wheel of Fortune.

I wrote on my paper CREE, DOUGH, and couldn't figure out how to get 5 letters from that... duh...

Why did you you write down CREE and DOUGH on your paper? I wrote down AY, (r)AY, EEE, I, EW, U? but nothing that could reasonably ever turn into anything.
                                                        • dplass 🤓5:43 · 2023-04-09T21:38:10.574Z
EE was the "missing vowel sound" for CR and O was the missing sound for D, making CR+EE, D+O(UGH)

Fun, and as per usual, inventive Meta. I went sooo many different ways until I finally mentioned to someone that CREE and DOUGH would be perfect if only there were clues about Indians and money and they said. "well why don't you try it anyway?"

I don't pronounce the answer CREE DOH, but I see it's actually the first one in the dictionary. Also we eat crawfish here (yum!), so I had to change it to crayfish when I checked the downs.
