Eleven of the clues are complete cryptic clues each missing one piece — either one word or several, which may be part of the wordplay, an indicator, or even the definition itself. These missing pieces are the answers to the other eleven clues, which are straight definitions. (Made in haste for the "gimmicked clues" midi contest.)
Very much a toughie! The definition only entries allowed me to get a bit of a foothold but the first few cryptic answers were tricky to get in. But once I had a fair bit done I could start joining up extra pieces and understanding the clues. A lovely range of devices from the missing pieces (I thought POTOO was especially nice). SW corner was last to fall for me, still not sure where STRIPE gets its definition from. Overall a tough but fun and satisfying puzzle, thanks!
That's a genuine error — my apologies. I've updated the clue. Thanks a ton for spotting that. I can only imagine my brain was on its last legs after such a confusing construction process!
