      Nice! I got to CHIAN and googled at that point- fortunately CHIANG was right there, and as a sci-fi author, that seemed relevant to some of the clues... good guess!

        Turns out I hit "publish" without having noticed the extremely embarrassing mistake… live and learn.
        The thematic entries are science-fiction movies (CONTACT, HER, IRONMAN, ARRIVAL, NOTHING). I planned to have GRAVITY for the G… but I was so caught up in the grid construction process and selecting acceptable fill that I didn't notice I'd forgotten to place it. 😳 At least there's one G entry in the grid ! 😅
