    My thinking, and I want to be right, is that the theme was No C and O as most of the answers had either C or O but not both. 8A is a cheeky C.

        i interpreted my theme as "no C and O as a pair (CO)" and not them individually, but i agree that i overlooked the individual C and O aspect of it. sorry if this puzzle didn't make sense to you!

      Ah, this put me on the right track: I think the proper answer to 7A is COINBOX. But the proper answer to 4A ought to then be CONCUR, not COINCUR…

    When you parse the title differently, you get "no C and O," which is what's missing from 4A and 7A ("I CONCUR" and "COIN BOX" respectfully)
