3D: Definition is “Police officer” (British slang). Oddly refers to taking the odd numbered letters of “chomps pie”- giving COPPE, and placing this before the start (first letter) of RIOT (R) gives COPPER
4D: Definition is “direct”, confusing is an anagram indicator for DEAL, which gives LEAD
5A: Definition is “its a gas!”, everything but ROXY’s head (first letter) gives OXY, plus the backside (latter half) of IMOGEN (GEN) gives OXYGEN
6A: Definition is “Beans store”, and a well known character from a comic book is TINTIN, with either half of his name giving TIN
7D: Definition is “Bright light”, dazed is an anagram indicator for NONE, giving NEON

8A: Each of the clues are ELEMENTS on the PERIODIC table!only “elements” was the original answer, but i realised “periodic” was the same length, so why not add it as an alternative!
As someone who has just been casually solving cryptic clues on Reddit and Minute Cryptic, this was the first 'full' puzzle I've solved. I enjoyed the theme and the difficulty was very rewarding for a beginner. I honestly wish the puzzle was bigger! 10/10.
