    40D - I wondered why this is so similar to REATA/RIATA, the other crosswordese answer for the same kind of clue. It's because it comes from the Spanish la reata. Something similar happened with "alligator" which is a corruption of el lagarto "the lizard".

          I just learned I’ve been spelling my grandpa’s name wrong. It’s not “Isadore”. It’s “Isidore”. Thank you 23D. Although I suspect I’ve learned this lesson before, and forgotten it.
          He was an interesting man, BTW, and likely quite so to the Crosshare community. You might read this article about him.
