I mean this in the nicest way possible, but some of the constructors on the forum could take a lesson from Capn Rick on how to construct a grid with no bizarre made-up entries. Just actual words we’ve heard of. It was a joy to fill in the squares!
Thank you, Meg. I appreciate your comments. I try to minimize the amount of grid Googling so that solvers can spend more time on meta solving.

Another enjoyable Cap'n Rick, lucky for me I know REVERIE is another name for DREAM. In French to dream is rêver and la rêverie means "daydream". Merci pour l'énigme mon Capitan!
Spent way too long this morning thinking that 18D was the key entry, somehow missing 61D entirely. Came back tonight and went "15A!" Very nicely constructed, and challenging without being anywhere near as hard as I made it :-)
Yes, getting that first step seems to be the trickiest part of the solve for a lot of folks. Glad you enjoyed it, Cindy!

This was my first time attempting a Monday puzzle! Both the grid and the meta were a lot of fun. I had my answer yesterday but didn't submit until this morning because I couldn't find the middle letter in the grid. I decided that it couldn't be anything else and took a chance. Thanks for a great puzzle!
Thanks, Jay. Did you like my double shout-outs at 50D and 51D?

Yes thanks, though it's probably pretty vain of me to think of all bird references as being about me. If I remember correctly from a psych class, that's called "egocentric attribution."
Finally got to the puzzle as WSJ turned out to be rather easy and the MGWCC is delayed until tomorrow. Took some nudging (3rd) to rev up my meta brain. Nicely constructed.
And the aha nicely captured the sound of egg on my face.
