I remember reading an interesting set piece (I believe it was in Rising by Elizabeth Rush & it's been a second, so, grain of salt, etc.) about trophic cascade among 35A, where warmer climate caused the birds to be born with shorter beaks, making it impossible for them to reach the horseshoe crabs in their wintering grounds, and thus forcing them to rely on roots, etc. for sustenance, which contributed to coastal erosion in those areas.
We don't have any 22D/31A where I live, but I did see a killdeer a couple days ago apparently running(?) drills with his/her 2 chicks, which was also very adorable.
      Thanks for the puzzle!
