    Thanks for solving! 3D is certainly the most convoluted -- in fact, probably too outlandish: MA ("master's") + ZIN (or Zinfandel, "wine") in GA ("pair of Galápagos") rearranged ("perhaps")

      Ah, thanks. Wine=ZIN is not familiar to me, but I think I’d managed to piece most of the rest together!

  Nice! Good work integrating the theme, with some deceptive clues in there. Very logical in hindsight but tricky to nail in the first pass. Nice aha when 6a fell, for example
