thanks, this was a toughie. i'm trying to get better, but a dumdum like me can only do so much... especially compared to you geniuses who put out puzzles day in and day out far beyond anything i could ever imagine
the indicator in 7a seems backward to me? (maybe eats instead?)
i looked up 9a to see if i was using that wrong, i found that the feminine form is actually et aliae, and that 9a is neuter, but i may be misunderstanding
2d and 3d seem kinda dupey to me? maybe accommodation for 2d (and does [oblate shape] work as an anagrind?) and promotional for 3d? (also i was surprised to find 3d was one word in the dictionary)
idk, i really should put a sock in it and leave it all to you far more capable hands... then again, these days all my socks have holes in them

Yeah I was surprised 3a was one word not two as well.
tbh this puzzle was more of an experiment in trying to make a full 6x6. I tried to make it work with just good words, but this is the best I was able to do. I will probably go back to more regular minis tomorrow.
I think you should give yourself more credit, these are definitely hard, and you provide very good feedback!

Thanks for a very entertaining cryptic. These unbarred puzzles are really tough to compile.
I agree with merlinnimue about the indicator in 7A
9A ET ALIA means "and others" e.g. in a list of citations in an academic work. I didn't see where "All female authors" linked to the solution.
2D I liked merlinnimue's suggestion - does "Oblate shaped accomodation" have a more pleasing surface?
3D An outlandish but perfectly valid word; the surface reading is masterful!
6D Another outlandish word that is perfectly valid; excellent surface reading

I have made changes to 9A and 2D now. I tried avoiding outlandish words but this is the best I could do unless I wanted to spend a lot longer on constructing. I tried to compensate with easier clues or better surface lol.
great fun! and some clever clues. gotta say though that i prefer your usual cryptics with black squares. i think in cryptics you don't need so many cross letters because when you know the answer, you know you know the answer; whereas in a non-cryptic cross-word, when the clues is just something like "kind of cheese", you need all the cross letters you can get to figure out whether it's 'edam or brie or feta or blue'.
Agreed here, it’s also a shame to have everything double checked because it means you don’t have to solve every clue to finish the puzzle - your solver could miss a really clever clue! Did really enjoy this puzzle though of course.
Thank you both for the feedback! I agree with that, and it makes sense. I have been experimenting with some variations with some of the dailies to see what all I can do, and also to see your feedback. These comments are really helpful in letting me know what works better and what does not, and what you would like to see more etc.
