(I got close to the meta solution but kept thinking "broken" or "leaky" or "burst" rather than "blocked". Also wasn't sure if the "blocked" letters — which I think were LALRO, from top to bottom — were significant.)

i kept getting stuck with the idea that it could be "no L" or "no EL" because it works for several of them but I was way off with the pipes thing. Granted I also forgot about the whole pipers piping thing too soooo yeah

Giving myself a moral victory for thinking of "broken pipes," "burst pipes," and "a hole in the pipes," because "clogged pipe" is a more common parlance than "blocked pipe" and this did not have the vibe of a clog to me.
