Constructor's Note
A few of the clues here are quite hard in comparison to the rest, but I hope the cross-checked letters will see you home. One of the clues is also doing something quite 'experimental' (in that I haven't seen it done elsewhere--probably for good reason). As always, good luck!

    Thanks for attempting this crossword, and I'm sorry if 8D threw you for a loop; with a very oblique definition.
    A few of these clues were originally written with indirect anagrams (e.g. 1A was "Military missions twisted tales"), which I believe have all been removed now.
