Neat grid! I don't love two-letter fill, but you did a nice job with it! 1A was hilarious and 1D was a gettable but clever new-to-me term ("fishtails"); the deception of British, French, and Dutch was VERY good. I do wonder if 6A is fully grammatically kosher (does "the loss," as opposed to just "loss," mean L?), but that's not a criticism (especially coming from me, a B-user of language), just a thought.
