Hah. I don't know. When I'm really humming, though, I'm usually reading the next clue before I've even typed the answer to the current clue. And, ideally, I'll get at least 80-90% of the puzzle complete just through the Across clues, leaving minimal cleanup for the Downs. Solving on an actual computer helps, too- I'm probably twice as slow on my phone. Not enough screen real estate to take in sufficient information quickly, and obviously the typing is way slower and there's no autocorrect to fix my finger flubs.
Crosshare has a really good interface, too, with useful keyboard navigation options- they make it easy to move around, switch from across to down, skip filled squares and completed clues, etc. The WSJ's puzzle interface, by comparison, is beyond brutal. I absolutely hate solving puzzles on their page, which is a real shame, because the puzzles themselves are really good!
Good to know. Working the phone is quite tricky especially when trying to delete wrong answers. Thanks for letting me know! The only other crosswords I've ever filled out online are the Jonesin' crosswords by Matt Jones(my personal favorite) and the interface seems decent, but I haven't tried that one for a couple years. I've been mostly buying NYT full books of Wednesdays and Thursdays. Trying to build up the knowledge to easily do Fridays. Some day! Thanks for the input.
