Each row, column, and barred off region must contain exactly one Q (queen). Q's cannot be placed in adjacent cells, including diagonally. Use the letter X to mark cells that cannot contain a Q.

        I misunderstood the rules. I thought it was a Queen placement puzzle, i.e. you couldn't put Q's in the same diagonal. But no, it's a star battle.

          Oh. I thought that you meant each row and column not including the barred off regions needed a Q, but now I see it's for the whole puzzle. Cool!

            I read the rules wrong, but eventually got it. I originally thought that the adjacent/diagonal restriction was within a block (barred off region). But then I reread and figured it out.
