    Thanks for a challenging puzzle.
The top left/bottom right words are isolated from the rest of the puzzle.
9A Not another acronym! I don't use them when compiling crosswords.
21D I see MANTRA as a chant; the meaning is more about the chanting than the words themselves.
    1A Definition?

      Thanks for playing Oliver.
What do you mean, not enough checks?
9A Is that a rule, or a preference?
21D And yet the words themselves are surely sacred, or else one would simply chant anything at all instead of one specific mantra, wouldn't one?
1A I'm torn on this, as I feel the relevance of the fodder operates as its own definition, and appending e.g. "- Neurological condition" to either end would render the clue too obvious in my opinion. I'd be curious to hear what others felt though.

Oh, I see what you mean now about the isolated sections. Doh!
