I'm assuming you've been writing these for a while and just decided to collect them all here at once, because this is a very confident, clever 15x15 to drop (on the same day as 20 other puzzles). I think there's a few spots where language could be a bit tighter, like the extraneous "a" in 1A or whatever's going on with the W in 10A (I might just be dense on that one) and the indicator for 5D ("set with?"), and I'd personally tweak a few nonsense surfaces like 6D.
But overall? Killer wordplay for stuff like 14A, 18A, 25A, 26A, 9D, 19D, 21D, etc. Very fun puzzle.
Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, I semi-recently discovered cryptics (August of last year or so) and I've fallen head first into making and solving them.
Good call on 1A, I agree now that you point it out. The W in 10A is from "with" (EAR + W + AX), and for 5D, I used "set with" to mean that you can set the word using the following letters, which I'll admit is a bit nonstandard but I liked it well enough. I also agree that 6D's surface isn't the greatest, but if I stretch my brain I can imagine an old tomb with candles in vials being lit in a weirdly ceremonial way or something lol. Glad you enjoyed!
D'oh! That sneaky with ALWAYS gets me when it could also be read as an (unnecessary) linking word. Looking forward to solving more (or catching up on the backlog); I stream puzzles on Twitch over at /thatcrypticguy every Tuesday night at 9:00 EST, so if you have any new puzzles, I'll likely give one a crack live.
