    Well done! I did not know all the words in this cryptic. A friend of mine really likes plants and animals hence I occasionally make more themed cryptics. Due to the limitations of crossing letters I ended up using words I did not know. Thanks for solving it, and I am unsure what inconvenience you are referring to.

  I literally guess the letters in 1D and 3D and was shocked to have gotten them right. 4A was actually a word I'd seen before.

  OK, so I had to cheat (google) because I'd never heard of the plant or fish, but still fun. BTW, I think there's a misleading length--3D should say (7) not (5). Since the grid is there, it doesn't matter much, but just FYI! Thanks for your delightful daily doses of cryptic clues!
