Spent an embarrassingly long time trying to figure out what a darce tree is... merlin fails +1

Heron was a first-century engineer who proved a formula for calculating the area of a triangle given only the length of its sides.

Indeed that's correct! 2d is a double definition like that. And for 1d, the evergreen conifer is cedar, which is cycled (rotated) to get arced.

Nice cryptic - liked it a lot! 1D I assume that "Cycled" is an anagrind but there is no fodder to work on.

Thanks! Cycled here is just rotating the letters around. So cedar is rotated twice to get arced.

Thanks for the reply; I haven't seen "cycled" other than as an anagrind. Shouldn't there be fodder, nevertheless?

Hmmn, I am not fully sure but I should have provided fodder here. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks again! It appears that I am mistaken about fodder. I don't recall coming across "cycled" in Daily Telegraph cryptics, so please pardon my ignorance.
