Meta Prompt
The meta answer is a 12-letter dance. Discuss the puzzle and Wednesday nudges at https://www.xword-muggles.com/viewtopic.php?t=2069
Hints:
Per the central entry, first locate a synonym for a certain across entry. That special entry is appropriately clued. Don't forget to think about the clue for that entry when you are looking for a synonym.
The certain across entry is the last across. If you look at that clue, a more common answer (the synonym) should come to mind. If you know your mythology, it's the Roman counterpart.
Hopefully by now you have a 5-letter synonym. You can Google that word and “dance” to get a two-word answer. The long entries show the “remix”.

Ok, now to figure out the rest of the metanism! Lol!

Now I see! EROS shuffled in long clues! Clever, Peter! And fun dance too!
      • rjy 10s · 2023-02-13T15:37:56.878Z
Very clever, Peter, tho I came at the answer the wrong way thinking these were all anagrams of ROSE, which is certainly valentine-y enough. Had to reset - and use wikipedia's list of dances 😬 - to work my way back around.

Got here from the prompt, plus thinking 40-across would apply to the valentine-themed clue EROS<->CUPID, and then knowing the cupid shuffle. I think I may be missing where the shuffle part comes from though.

Look at longer entries - E-R-O-S shuffle

Am I the only one who's never heard of this dance? I watched the You tube and I think I spied Peter in the second row swirling his hips.

Not sure I totally get the mechanism, but I figured CUPID had to be in it. I've never heard of the dance, but Google helped! Nice!

NICELY done! I figured that the synonym had to be EROS, given the upcoming day and all, and found CUPID SHUFFLE (12 letters) but did not see how cleverly you "shuffled" EROS (Cupid) in your long answers. I won't say this is the same as an erotic thrill, but it was quite satisfying....Thanks for the puzzle Peter.

We need to do a Muggle version of this dance.

To the right, to the right.....(of the grid) To the left, to the left....... (of the grid) Now kick, now kick ----- (and scream) Oh, solve it by yourself...solve it by yourself

Got it, thank you, Peter! I was thrown off while filling the grid by entering IONESCO instead of YOKOONO. Once I got that straightened out, I solved the meta eventually

I hadn’t “heard” of this dance but eventually realized it had to involve EROS/CUPID and googled. And then was surprised to recognize the dance as one I’ve done several times (at weddings). Don’t think I ever knew the name.
                                    VERY clever meta, Peter.

I must not go to enough weddings? I've heard of the Electric Slide but never did the Cupid Shuffle (well in truth never did the Electric Slide either, I was more of a disco guy).

I kept thinking of Eros as an anagram of Rose instead of the word needing a synonym. Very nice. Have never heard of the dance, though!
                                      • HeadinHome 🤓4:08 · 2023-02-14T16:12:31.731Z
WOW how many false paths did this one offer? Synonyms to ROSE anagrams, homonyms for them (or very close, looking at you, AERO and OAR), repeated words in clues and entries (“a bow,” “rock/s,” “egg/s”)… I have danced this dance many times without knowing its name, so wasn’t going to get it on my own. Thanks to a couple of friends nudging me to google EROS (I knew it as “romantic love,” forgetting it was of course the wee one who takes a bow on V.Day, CUPID). I mean, the clue itself should have tipped me off. Well done.
                                        • HeadinHome 🤓4:08 · 2023-02-14T16:14:41.513Z
Also - I JUST realized these are not ROSE anagrams but EROS anagrams, thus CUPID shuffled. Doh. (I grabbed ROSE as my doorway in early on, so couldn’t un-think that, I guess.)

My first instinct was to find a synonym for 68A SLANG with that lengthy clue. This led me to JIVE and the incorrect guess "BALLROOM JIVE", which also has 12 letters. I'm not much of a dancer (unless there's an extra ration of grog to be had!), so I wasn't familiar with either dance, but Peter's construction and mechanism are spot-on and fit perfectly with the title.

Thanks Cap. At least three others got hung up on my overly cute slang clue- using a precise definition to define a thing that's loose by nature.
In my next life I would not have had that distractor. Glad you eventually got there!

Was doing the doh-si-duh instead of the Cupid Shuffle. Spent too much time in the thesaurus: ROSE/SALMON, QUARTZ/ORE, SODA/ICE, POP/SLANG, WEEONE/TOT, SALMONROE/EGG, SORE/WELT, COPPER/CENT. Also remixed middle of ROSEQUARTZ into SQUARE. Lots of those dances out there. Oh, is this not the place where you vie for the rabbit mug? Thanks Peter!
