Meta Prompt
The answer to the meta is a three-word phrase
This was one of those night-time meta ideas that pop into your head while you are supposed to be sleeping. While it's not like my usual metas, I think you will still enjoy it. The answer to the meta is a three-word phrase. Answer and explanation: https://www.xword-muggles.com/viewtopic.php?p=102224#p102224
Check out "The MOAT Mini Pack of Marching Bands" here: https://www.ephesusscroll.com/about/interest4.html. US$5 gets you 7 Marching Bands which, hard enough on their own, now contain metas too. And once again there's a mega-meta!

Fun, Ben. I've always heard the phrase "on the improvement", but I knew what you wanted.

We Aussies are known for shortening everything!

Not a phrase I’ve ever heard. Seems to be used in Australia and Great Britain.

Hee hee... that's what you get with benchen71 metas: Australian culture and jargon!

        You people say this?

Never heard that phrase but it worked! Thank you, Ben, for something different and fun!

Never heard it put quite like that, but then I thought it was probably an Aussie thing. Thanks, Ben!

You are on quite a roll this week, Ben! I never heard this phrase but google revealed an Australian song so I knew it had to be correct :D

Different and fun! Though not enough crosses to fill the gaps in my knowledge about some of the entries :-)

An alternative answer could be "Do one better" (keeping the C and then D in as corners-- Do = con one=the better=improved).
Can't say I've ever heard of "on the improve" (or on the improvement)
                    • DebbieC 🤓3:01 · 2022-08-03T17:14:05.822Z
Never heard the phrase. Thanks for the education. Is it similar to American/British "on the mend"?
                      • benchen71 constructor · 2022-08-03T22:15:55.478Z
Yes, that would be an equivalent.

Unclear why I shouldn't use the starting C and ending D... and +1 to never having heard this phrase.

                                Because they are not turns.
                              • ReB 5:40 · 2022-08-06T01:39:52.607Z
Once I figured out to eliminate the two ends and just use the corners, I generated a phrase that seemed plausible, though I hadn't heard it before - and it proved correct. The closest American phrase I think would be "on the mend" - as in after an accident. Glad I had the mechanism all along.

Had to Google a couple of the clues, but got the meta right way once the puzzle was complete. Thanks Ben!
