          2D: "eye" can be a name for the letter i, and "i" is "India" in the ICAO/NATO phonetic alphabets, thus "pilot's eye". The wordplay is an acrostic indicated by "opens".
          5A: MAPS (plans) reversed (around); spam can mean "to send messages repeatedly", of which triple texting would be an example (see double text)
