Happened to be up late (U.S. west coast) and saw this soon after it was posted. Fun!

      Elegant meta, thanks!

Enjoyed it! Nice that it "clicked", esp given some of the red herrings related to eggs in the grid: CRACK, DYED, ROT(ten)

          Same.

I very rarely intentionally add red herrings, but it is crazy how often they slip in without me being aware of it!

Somehow the letters I found weren't in the right order! I guess they were...SCRAMBLED!
                • benchen71 constructor · 2021-10-19T21:10:26.689Z
That is totally appropriate, given the theme. But my intention was that the order be derived from the lengths of the EZ words going from smallest to longest.

Ah. I've never seen that mechanism.

Fun! Yes, I liked the many allusions to eggs.

I might have missed something, but what's Denver got to do with it? (I live in Melbourne, Australia, btw.)

Here in the U.S. a Denver omelet (or omelette) contains ham, cheese, and red and/or green peppers. One of my favs! You could start something similar down under (maybe using ostrich or emu eggs) and call it a Melbourne omelette!

Thanks for the explanation! An emu egg would make for a very big omelette, apparently!
