Mini 27 - 10x10

◆◆ · Por Sendhil Revuluri · Publicado 2024-02-29T18:05:47.829Z

Constructor's Note
This is a 10x10 that was rejected (and rightly so) for a number of obvious issues (grid layout, including unchecked squares; gluey fill, including likely Naticks), but thought folks might still enjoy trying it out. Further feedback definitely appreciated (though I hope I have become less likely to make these same mistakes in the last few months!)

Well, this puzzle has set a new low of 0% "completions without helpers". The southwest is definitely the worst, between the glue and the proper names. I tweaked a couple clues that I hope will take it from impossible to just unpleasantly hard. (And again, I do not believe in "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all…" — at least for my puzzles here!)

I took the help to correct “SYMMETRIES”. Yes, the fill in the lower left corner could be used to evade attackers….
      (Cuz it’s dodgy)

Very good puzzle. Only complaint is the "delag" answer in the southwest which still doesn't make much sense to me.

Thanks for solving! There is definitely far more to complain about in this one so I thank you for your restraint :)

This was tricky! A couple of comments about abbreviations: 1) I don't know if it's conventional to abbreviate someone's name (i.e., Esther) and 2) I don't think I've ever seen Ep as an abbreviation for Episode in other puzzles (for a long time, I had EPIC for 14-Down). I join Seth Abrams in wondering what you meant with DELAG at 17-Down. I'd never heard of the blue-eyed actress. I'd never heard of the author mentioned in 3-Down and when I looked him up and saw the book title to which you refer, I laughed out loud!

Entirely valid, thanks for the detailed feedback! I think the only way that ESTH would have been legitimate is if I’d clued it as the Old Testament book. Glad I was able to introduce you to 3D!
