  Took me over 5 mins on my phone, but I was not permitted to log into Crosshare from there. So I did the crossword again on my computer (in less than half the time!)

  Can you explain how 4A is cryptic? The answer seems like a literal response to me.

    Fair point - it isn't really cryptic. It had taken me ages to find an answer that fitted with the letters and the symmetry to link the sailor clues together, and I didn't want to make the clue too hard for a beginner's one, but you're right - it was a bit of a cop-out.
