Sum Thing’s Hidden #1

◆◆ · By John S · Published 2024-09-13T17:24:24.869Z

Constructor's Note
Introducing my 10th recurring puzzle series: Sum Thing’s Hidden!
How it works: Each puzzle has one cell isolated from the rest of the puzzle. This isolated cell always contains a numerical answer and may require a rebus if the answer is > 9. The isolated number is the sum of other numbers (integers only) hidden throughout the puzzle. Hidden numbers may be spelled identically to the numerical spelling (e.g. “network” contains “two,” the identical spelling of the number 2), or may be homophones (e.g. “today” or “toggle” for the number 2; note the homophone need not sound like the number in the broader word as with “toggle,” but the “to” part of toggle would still count as a homophone for “two.” Constants, and other words that indicate a numerical value in some mathematical scenarios are not in-scope and should not be counted, but may exist in the puzzle (such as with 4D in this puzzle).
Objective: Identify all the hidden numbers by solving the main part of the puzzle first. Then, sum the hidden numbers up and put the correct total in the isolated cell in order to complete the puzzle!
Good luck, and have fun!

    15A contains 8 & 10; 1D contains 8; 2D contains 1; QED: 8 + 10 + 8 + 1 = 27

Huh- I was stuck on 19, as "EATEN UP" to me is pronounced EEEE-TEN up, there's no 8 sound in it.
Also- Myles Garrett plays DE (Defensive End) not TE (Tight End - an offensive position). Well known TEs in today's NFL are guys like Travis Kelce, George Kittle, and Cole Kmet.

Numbers hidden as homophones don’t necessarily need to sound like the number when pronounced with the word they help make up, but rather the homophone alone. I could make this clearer tho with the examples and use the word “toggle” instead of “toward”

I never would've gotten this one without revealing it. I misunderstood how it works and for some reason thought like "today" and "toggle" for 2 was because the TO spelling. And was looking for like to, too, two instead of eat/ate for 8. For some reason 8A made me think LIV would end up being Roman numerals and I got stuck on that.

I’ll add that Roman numerals are also not considered integers if you think that would help. You were right to look for to, too, two, all as valid versions of “2!” This puzzle just didn’t have any
