I see that 9d and 18d aren't crossed enough -- I saw that only after I had it mostly done; I could reduce those by 1 letter and still have a fine puzzle, but I left it. And a little later I see that 18A and 20A aren't crossed enough, too. Sorry, I'm outta practice.

"It's not what you said, it's how you said it" to finish the title. Inspired by NYT crossword clue from early in Will Shortz's run. I read an article about his editorship, how he upped the game there a bit, giving an example of a clue for a 3 letter answer: "Notable tower"; the answer: AAA. I fit some answers in here that have multiple pronunciations giving different meanings, which led to a bunch of "2 def." clues! In the end, some of them 2 defs don't have different pronunciations, but on the other hand, one of the clues contains that ambiguity!
