Leveling Up

Hello World! This is my very first foray into the world of crossword construction. I looked to one of my other hobbies for theme inspiration, hopefully you enjoy the solve as much as I enjoyed the creation.

        Very smooth solve. You did ask for feedback on your first grid and I hope this doesn't come across meanly, because I did these as well on my own first attempts. I'll put them as replies to this comment.

          (or I'll just have to make a second comment) 44A isn't common knowledge, so it needs fairer crossings. Be careful of duplications - you can do Bet and Betray but DNAS and DNACHIP repeat a whole word in the grid and that's normally advised against. Other than that, good grid!

            That’s extremely helpful Ariel, thank you! I knew 44A would be difficult but I expected it to be slightly more common knowledge than it’s turning out to be based on those that have solved so far. Now I know!

              Also, being mindful of how fair the crossings are on my harder fill is something I’m trying to be more mindful of in my second puzzle. Thanks again for taking the time to give me feedback!

              love the clue for 16A... agree with ariel regarding fairer crossings for 44A - although this is a pretty niche puzzle... there are many things that got me excited about it - the konami code, INSERTCOIN, the mental image of sonic's legs in 46D... a really good first effort!
