Kinkering Kongs their Titles Take

◆◆ · By Mihir · Published 2024-05-19T03:30:13.786Z

Constructor's Note
I tried making a crossword (my first one), but I needed some help! Thankfully, Rev William Archibald Spooner dictated most of these clues in a dream yesterday night. Unfortunately, as was his habit, he might have swapped the initial sounds of some words in some of these clues. Modulo this inconvenience, I hope you have fun solving! [In hindsight, perhaps the correct title was 'Conquering Kings their Titles Take' :)]

Hope you enjoyed the crossword. It seems, I have identified all of rev. Spooner's goofs in the puzzle. They were as follows:
1A Where you take a shower - BATH
3A Mythical Male, linked with apple - ADAM
7A Headgears adorned by a dear old queen - TIARAS
16A Vehemently deny Insistence of Perjury - I SWEAR
21A Garment for proofing rain - PONCHO
23A Face crushing Blows - JABS
2D Least and exceptional prime - TWO
4D Feast de lacto supplier - DAIRY
5D Mode of lighting fires - ARSON
7D That was a double! Drink that tastes better with buttered toast - TEA
8D Right turn from ENE - SSE
12D flutter, by effect of wind - SWING
14D Wall Street investments co. Goldman - SACHS
17D Greek sigma-pi's link - RHO (letter in between)
19D Dad's German mummy - OMA (granny in German)

liked the amount of spoonerisms there are--while it made solving the puzzle pretty difficult, it was fun to see in hindsight what the clues were. this is very impressive for your first puzzle!
for your future puzzles, i recommend a few things: ideally, both parts of the grid should connect (right now, the top half feels like a separate puzzle from the bottom half). you want to have each square be part of two answers, so that every square is crossed twice (hence a "cross"word :P). as an example, the B square in BATH/BUS is crossed, since it's part of both BATH and BUS, but the A in BATH isn't, as there's only one answer that uses that letter. i recommend seeing how other people do grid shapes, and getting inspiration from them :)
really, really impressive crossword for your first one--especially considering this had a gimmick to make writing clues harder! i can't wait to see more from you :)

Hey, thanks a lot for your feedback and the suggestions. I'll keep them in mind for the next time. I can imagine how the shape and crossings in the crossword could have overall improved it. I guess, I got carried away with the gimmick than the crossword while constructing. 😅 Thanks!
