Hmm, sorry, this one was not for me... I felt the ddefs were too close to one another... i felt the leading article in 1d was extraneous and distracting... and I have no idea on the parse for 5a
Thanks for the feedback. I suppose 5A was too obscure. "Abandon girl"; delete G from RESIGN ("leave" synonym). "Japan" and "resin" are synonyms for "varnish". On reflection it may be too obscure, but a search in the thesaurus might reveal the link. 1D I'm sorry if the leading article distracted you; it was there to improve the surface reading. Sometimes articles affect the solution, sometimes they don't. I'm sorry that it frustrated you but I appreciate the feedback.
